Strengthening local standards for sustainability and resilience.

Smaller communities are moving to strengthen local codes for stormwater to protect resources and prevent flooding to save taxpayer money for costly repairs and improvements.

Watershed supported the Town of Hartford to develop technical stormwater and erosion control standards to be included in Town Subdivision Regulations. Often Towns may default to State or Federal requirements. However, doing so can preclude smaller incremental development from regulation which can be as or even more detrimental for water quality as larger continuous development. Watershed crafted a standard that addresses the specific challenges of the Town and fits the scale of community development patterns.
