Originally constructed in 1898, Hyde Park’s elementary school was in need of an upgrade.

Educational facilities are a key area of focus and expertise for Watershed. In partnership with Civil Engineering Associates, a robust plan for managing runoff was devised that maximized the reduction in stormwater volume and provided recharge to local aquifers. Given the space constraints and the needs of the facility, a fully underground infiltration and recharge gallery system was proposed to strategically maximize the use of well-draining hilltop sand and gravel soils to dissipate stormwater before discharge to Centerville Brook. The result is a functional management system that has restored natural hydrological conditions on a developed site that has existed for over a century.

  • 1.5 acres of impervious area managed
  • 580,000 gallons of runoff infiltrated annually
