Stormwater Engineer Position Description
Watershed Consulting is seeking a full-time Stormwater Engineer for our busy Burlington office. The Stormwater Engineer will fill a critical role to support and manage all phases of civil engineering projects related to stormwater, water quality, and river management. Specific tasks include:
- Stormwater Planning, Design, and Oversight (~50% time allocation) – Assist with and independently manage all aspects of stormwater improvement projects with emphasis on innovative urban and rural green stormwater infrastructure, agricultural and road-based erosion, filtration/infiltration systems, rainwater harvesting, continuous monitoring and adaptive control, and research-based projects. Support and lead teams to interpret water quality and quantity models, prepare concept plans and details, prepare final engineering documents, and oversee construction activities.
- Stormwater Inspection and Permitting (~25% time allocation)– Perform stormwater system inspections and develop permitting applications for redevelopment and development projects in Vermont and New Hampshire.
- Stream Restoration and Culvert Retrofit (~25% time allocation)– Lead and support team to develop plans and specifications for stream and floodplain restoration projects, and culvert retrofit or replacement to improve geomorphic and aquatic organism passage conditions.
Minimum Qualifications: Professional Engineering license in Vermont or ability to procure one within 6 months of start of employment. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat. Familiarity with water quality and quantity models such as HydroCAD, WinSLAMM, PCSWMM, HY-8, and HEC-RAS. Familiarly with CAD and GIS.
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will be motivated and professional, with strong communication, computer and organizational skills and have an interest and demonstrated skill in managing complex and innovative projects. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment is essential. Understanding of the Vermont stormwater permitting system is a plus. Creative thinkers and those with experience developing cutting edge water quality improvement projects are preferred.
